The longboard surfboard is usually a large (wider and longer) surfboard with a rounded nose, they are usually anywhere from 8 feet to 12 fee long. Noseriders are a special class of longboard that are shaped to help the surfer to walk to the nose of the surfboard, they usually feature a scooped out bottom contour under the nose to help in "riding the nose." Longboard Surfboards are also much wider than shortboard surfboards and thus have much more bouyancy and planing surface, with enables surfers to ride longboards in smaller surf that usually would be too difficult to ride a shortboard surfboard in. Because of their size and the increased boyancy in longboards, they are great for beginners because they allow surfers to catch more waves than smaller surfboards. An advanced longboarder will be able to walk all the way from one end of the board to the other and literally hang their toes over the nose of the surfboard in a "hang-ten."
